This project is based on the book required for Magnet Summer Reading, The Good Food Revolution by Will Allen. The project emphasis will focus on a food problem and possible, attainable solutions. I got the idea from the Johns Hopkins Institute- Center for a Livable Future website. Groups of 3 students will be chosen at random. There will be checkpoints and a culminating project due toward the end of the semester (early December). Specific project info will be given to students and posted here in late September or early October. 1- Overview of Project, including Checkpoint #1 2- Checkpoint #2 and Final Project Info 3- Final Project Requirements & Infographic Rubric 4- Presentation Rubric
2018 Semester Project: Henrietta Lacks (HeLa) Book Project. This is a semester long project. Each of the 4 installments must be completed in the same composition notebook and submitted on time. The 4 will be averaged together and count as one test grade. You MUST follow the directions EXACTLY for each of the 4 installments. That includes:
A Table of Contents, with question # and the corresponding page # of where it can be found in your composition notebook (meaning...you must # every page). I recommend leaving 4 blank pages at the beginning of the notebook for a TOC that will correspond to each of the 4 submissions.
YOU MUST 'HAND-WRITE' EACH QUESTION, FOLLOWED BY THE ANSWER.
HeLa FALL 2018Book Questions: FIRST INSTALLMENT DUE: Friday, 8/17/18 SECOND INSTALLMENT DUE: Friday, 9/14/18 THIRD INSTALLMENT DUE: Friday, 10/12/18 FINAL INSTALLMENT DUE: Friday, 11/9/18
Possible 2nd Project: Cell Communication Project-Animal and Plant Physiology 2019
Whether we do this project or not will depend on time. This project would correspond to our last unit and take a more in-depth look at animal and plant 'communication'. It would be completed in around a week.
BODY SYSTEMS PROJECT- 2018:
This project is optional in 2018. Due date is the Monday after Thanksgiving break. Only 1 day will be allowed for presentations.
3rd Block- Only 10 of 21 students are doing the project (3 groups). Here are the requirements for 3rd Block.
4th block- All but 2 students are doing the project, so groups will have to be sure to stay within the time limit and transitions between presentations will have to be quick. Here are the requirements for 4th Block.
Peer evaluation forms: MUST be turned in AS SOON as you walk into class. You must do one for every group member (including yourself). Forms will remain confidential.
Grading Rubric for each person in the group. I will monitor each group's collaboration and progress over Thanksgiving Break.
