Unit 2 Assignments *Regarding Chapter 8: We will primarily focus on sections 8.4 and 8.5 from Ch 8 for the Unit 2 test. The majority of Sections 8.1-8.3 (regarding energy and thermodynamics) will be on the Unit 3 Test. However, you should expect a couple of Unit 2 test questions regarding ATP.
Power Points for Ch 6-8 are in the right column Pearson website: There will be masteringbiology.com questions that are required for EVERY unit. Keep up with the calendar on the website for due dates! HANDOUTS: 1- Water Potential Notes (and Problems) Problems: 1- Molarity/Dilution Problems. Equation: M1V1=M2V2 (aka C1V1=C2V2, where C=Concentration). 2- Dilutions: Review and examples of calculations (each lab group be doing serial dilutions for Unit 2 labs, so make sure you know how to do them). 3- Surface Area and Volume WS 4- Water Potential Problems 5- More Water Potential Problems 6- Water Potential Notes and Problems Bioflix - Pearson Site. Complete the worksheets (either given in class or on mastering website) and make notes in lab notebook: Animal Cell Plant Cell Membrane Transport Chapter Outlines: (from 8th edition) Chap 6 Chap 7 Chap 8 Reading Guides: For Ch 6 and 7, you may either do the RG (hard copies available in class) or take thorough notes. Ch 8 RG is REQUIRED AP Classroom: (*New for Fall 2019) Student Progress Checks must be completed for every unit. I will post the assigned date for each unit on the Daily Agenda Labs, Pre-Labs:
2. AP Enzyme Catalysis Lab (*this lab will either be done in this unit or the next unit) **GO TO RESOURCES PAGE OF THIS BLOG FOR HOW TO WRITE A FORMAL LAB REPORT IN APA
Unit 2 Test: ReviewUnit 2 Review:
1- Topics for Review 2. Study Guide (hard copy) given in class. Go over the PPts. Make sure you have read the chapters and you have either: 1) taken thorough notes or 2) done the 'optional' reading guides. Make sure you can work Water Potential problems and that you understand the labs (AP Lab #1 and #2). 3- "The Cell" Review- MAINLY CH 6 4- Go to Pearson website with your log-in. Go to 'Study Area' for Ch 6-8. Go over the Reviews and Quizzes. 5- Do AP Classroom Unit 2 Progress Check 6- Go to 'Resources' sub-page of this site (near the top of the right column). There is a link to another book's practice questions and there are some good questions for review. 7- Refer to 'Videos & Lectures' in right column |

Watch this short video on Bacterium cell size: www.gifbin.com/987879 Watch these videos on Membranes and Transport: 1- Membranes 2- Membrane Transport 3- Cotransport: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jZd9ZyQH4vQ 4- Crash course (if needed for a more general review): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dPKvHrD1eS4 Videos on Water Potential: 1-Bozeman Water Potential 2- NEW! Excellent video I recently found on water potential by biologymonk: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5KOkt9dyN1w. I highly recommend subscribing to his channel (he has videos for other topics in AP Bio) 3- https://www.youtube.com/user/BleierBiology 4- MrPollockBiology: good explanation...and a great accent! Enzymes:
Dilutions: 1- For a review of Molarity, watch this 2- Serial Dilutions- good, short video. Here's a 'snip' of the process you'll do in lab. Energy and Thermodynamics: Gibbs Free Energy Video *Ask me if this concept will be done in depth for this unit test or more so in the next unit. Regardless, be familiar with the equation in terms of enthalpy and entropy and what each means. Also, distinguish endergonic from exergonic. Refer to Ch 8 PPt, above in the 'Power Point' section of this page. |
