AssignmentsANIMAL SYSTEMS PROJECT: 2018.
This project is optional in 2018. Due date is the Monday after Thanksgiving break (11/26). Only 1 day will be allowed for presentations. 3rd Block- Only 10 of 21 students are doing the project (3 groups). Here are the requirements for 3rd Block. 4th block- All but 2 students are doing the project, so groups will have to be sure to stay within the time limit and transitions between presentations will have to be quick. Here are the requirements for 4th Block. Peer evaluation forms: MUST be turned in AS SOON as you walk into class. You must do one for every group member (including yourself). Forms will remain confidential. Grading Rubric for each person in the group. Here's the link to get Microsoft 365 for FREE from the county. Put it on a 'home' device. You can use 'One Drive' to share your project progression (PPt, etc.) with me. If, instead, you are using Google Drive, be sure to share that folder with me, too. I will monitor collaboration between group members over the break. UNIT 8 ASSIGNMENTS: 1. Classification Chart: started in the last unit. Use the PPts (in PPt section) and your book to complete it. Try these Recommended Prezis: Mr. David Knuffke's Prezis on Body Systems (well worth your time.....highly recommended....these presentations 'put it all together'): 1- Organism Organization 2- Transport 3-Immune System 4- Endocrine 5- Neurons 6- Reproduction 7- Development [know from book: Fig 47.6, 47.8, 47.10. Use these in conjunction with the 2 Review Guides (lower left column), PPts and Book Intro to Animals- Ch 40 Review: Types of tissues; homeostasis and feedback control; endothermy vs ectothermy; circulatory adaptations (ex-countercurrent exchange); thermoregulation; metabolic rate (graphs p. 870); torpor Endocrine System: 1- AP student's Review of Endocrine System on youtube (10 minutes). He submitted it for a Kahn Academy Contest. I think it's pretty good! 2- If you've already watched Bozeman, watch Crash Course. Here's Hank's 'overall' video. Watch in this order: the neuron, membrane potential, action potential, synaptic transmission. Former AP Exams have asked questions on photoreceptors in retina, smell (olfactory) and reflex arc in Nervous System, so I'm hoping y'all will take a look at those before the Exam since they are all 2 minutes or less. 2- 'Cartoon' of action potential. (Goes nice and slow) 3- YouTube- Garland Science 4- Crash Course Nervous System #1 5- Crash Course #2 6- Crash Course #3 7- You HAVE to watch this guy's video on action potential! He's a little loud, but very entertaining! Plus, I think you'll like his 'straightforward' approach to explaining it. Circulatory System: This video also includes the Respiratory system. Although I'm not testing much of the Resp system (any questions will directly coincide with the Circ System), it could be on the AP Exam. Immune System: Prepping for the Body Systems test: 1- Good animated video (~3 min) of the overall picture. Watch this before 'tackling' all of the specifics of the 3 lines of defense 2- If you've already viewed the Bozeman video on Immune System, watch the Crash Course videos on youtube.com. Watch this one first. The others should follow in the correct order. 3- Really good (and short) animation of the 3rd line of defense. It's relatively new and I just found it on 11/28/17 4- Fast overview of Immune System 5- Immune System Review PPt: A teacher on the College Board AP Bio Teachers community site shared this with the group.
